New teak decks for the 4600

As my other thread re the cover as I said I'm now setting about the teak decks.

My intention is to do the bathing platform, rear cockpit the stairs, inc the steps accessing the side decks, and the complete fly bridge.

Now the decisions!

Border or no border?
Teak or "plastic"?
Maxum logo, ship name or no logo?

I think the border looks far better than just the plain deck so that's an easy one.

The options for "plastic" teak are far bigger. From a maintenance point of view I think I'll go with the plastic as apart fro a power wash now and again there is little maintenance. I want to use the boat not spend each weekend cleaning her. But, what style? New teak, weathered teak, black caulking, white caulking? I need to look at the options here.

Logo's, I think I'll incorporate a logo in the bathing platform at least. Not sure whether to use the boat name and logo, or the maxum name and logo.

Ian there are alot of options out there to do whatever you decide.

When you start please have a before and after photos for us.

I have always favored the fake teak.. easier to maintain, install and options in different styles are more.

Ian ,I agree on the pics. Would love to see them. I was looking at doing my swim deck but will have to wait till next year I think. I have electrical gremlins that I am chasing this year to get all my instruments working.

I would recommend not incorporating the boat name. It may turn someone off when you decide to sell if they are going to have to redo the work to remove the name when they change it.

Phillbo, I agree that it wouldn't be sensible to put the name in but the logo is a dolphin and a diver, that would be unobtrusive and has nautical tones which I think will suit the boat.

Current thinking is "maxum" on the bathing platform, "logo" on centre of the main hatch in the lazarette. I'm doing the fly bridge so probably a logo on the rear part adjacent to the hatch.

I'm finalising the design this weekend so I'll let you know.

Well, I've committed to the new decks.

I had the boat templated on Monday and I'll post a review/progress report under projects later today.

I had my 3700 SY done with Plasdeck earlier this year and it was a great decision. Get the new "Montauk" color as the original is really dark and the light teak is too light.

We did the plastic teak on the lower deck, stairs and swim platform. So much more comfortable to walk on or when sitting on the platform. It does get hot in the sun so we keep a bucket handy to put water on the platform. We did not incorporate any names or logos. It updated the look of the boat. Rear hatches are a little heavier to lift but nothing problematic.
Just power wash it in the spring and never touch it again except for a scrub when washing the boat.

Here is the teak we put on our 4600SCB. The job turned out well but you will get some bubbles and spots where the adhesive is weak (at least we did). This was Nuteak, no regrets, it updates the boat and makes it much better on the feet as the Maxum anti-skid is soooo rough. It gets hot in the sun so we keep a bucket of water on the swim platform to spash on it periodically but still better then what was there.

Frenchie, Looks good, I've just posted my decks under projects. Too early to tell re the heat as we're heading to winter and the tempreture was only 13, sorry 55 for you guys, at the weekend.
