Question Generator suggestions

I have a year 2000, 3700 SCR. The Westerbeke 7.2 gas generator is dead and parts are hard to come by. Any suggestions on another brand of generator for a replacement (Koehler, Onan, etc.)? Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

We most always tell owners of gennys to stick with what you have because if you change brands the money you spend could buy you a new boat. I suggest you find a dealer in your area and talk to them about what you want and the problems you have with yours. Weterbeke is a known maker of gennys around the world I find it hard to believe there is a parts problem. There you go.....

Go luck

Roger

Yeah, what's dead about it? My quicksilver was "dead" when I bought our boat, but turned out the reason it wouldn't turn over was the push button breaker was bad! Replaced that and fabbed a new exhaust and she's good. The older quicksilver generators really do have parts problems...

Kohler seems to have the largest market penetration. If looking for parts and certified technicians, that is a good place to start.

I have a 7.3 Kohler in my 35. Almost bulletproof apart from the odd impeller change which only takes a few minutes. Parts readily available. I think they are a converted Japanese motorcycle engine.

My Westerbeke 12.5 took a dump with only 490 hours. I had recently bought the boat so it may have been the prior owners contribution. I changed to a 12 Northern Light because its simple and less to go wrong. Had the duel start station installed.
