Default Garmin Transducer

I've got a 2004 3100SE with Garmin 742xs with radar and would welcome any advice in selecting a Garmin transducer and installation hints or tricks. I don't think I need all the functions of some of $1000+ transducers Garmine sells just a good solid performing transducer.
Thanks again

The Garmin site has a transducer selector with the various filters to help narrow the choices for your needs. Personally, I’d go with a in-hull/shoot thru style so as not to have another hole in the hull.

I just replaced Raymarine units with twin 8616 chart-plotters and the in-hull transducer. I'm amazed how well the $200 in-hull transducer works. When the time comes I want 3D sonar images I'll go for the $1000+ thru hull transducer.
