Default Cutlass Bearing

Has anyone changed their cutlass bearings on a 4600 with diesels - 2" shaft.

The Maxum parts list available on-line identifies the shaft and strut but not the bearing. I suspect after 18 years and 1600 hours they may need replaced. Was planning on doing it this spring when the bottom gets a new coat of paint.

Thanks,
Steve

Remove the old one, then buy a new one. It's not a Maxum specific part. Dripless or stuffing box? Dripless should be replaced every 5-10 years. stuffing boxes need to be repacked. If you don't know when they were done last, then I would do them all at the same time.

On an 18 year old boat, there is a high likely that the stuffing box/dripless and cutlass bearing are all original. They are rarely maintained within the suggested service intervals.

I had mine done last spring while getting stern thruster put on. Berrings were $167 Each and labor to remove and install new was 6.26 hours.

Hope that helps
