Default Bow Thruster 4600

Hello,

I have a 1999 Maxum 4600 SCB and I am considering installing a bow thruster in the boat. I have had a look in the compartments under the bed in the forward cabin and I am not sure which space would be the best to install it in.

The most forward space seems to have a fiberglass bottom which I guess could be removed but I am not sure if it forward or deep enough.

The second space is under the forward A/C unit. Which I think could be removed and then reinstalled after the bow thruster is installed.

If anyone has any suggestions or pictures of how they did it on there boat it would be great if you could help me out. Also type and size would be great.

Thanks

T

I'd be interested to know if this is possible. I'm in the processes of buying a 2001 4600. Definitely not a job for the faint of heart I bet.

This came as a factory option. This is a job I would definitely consider hiring a professional. If going ahead with a DIY,, I would find a model that has one installed and take a good long look, lots of pictures and plenty of measurements.

I agree with you totally. The problem I am having is finding pictures, measurements, or models that have been installed in the 4600. One person shared a photo of his boat but that's all I have right now. Hoping more people will share this information.

Pic doesn't look too bad when it's painted to match...

I am waiting for a quote on mine, they indicated it was a lot more than $6500, in Georgian Bay Ontario.

Where did you get yours done?

Dartmouth NS.

I removed the bed myself and ran some of the cables myself. I also purchased all the equipment and had someone install it to save on mark up if equipment.

I talked with Side-Power and they ran the numbers and they recommend a SE60 or SE80.

I had quotes between 14k to 16k from companies in this area. But I hired a company to install the tunnel and another company to do the rest of the work. Saved a lot of money that way. My boat was already out of the water from the winter so that cost was not included.

I bought the parts myself to save on mark up from the installer's.

Bit the bullet and accepted the pricing.

Went with the larger size (SE120) and 24 volt system so there’s no waste if I add proportional system later.

Pictures to follow in the spring.

That is a good idea. I would have went to 24 Volts if I would do it again. I also ran the line from the fwd ac unit into the shower pump out so it wouldn't put water in the bilge anymore. Looks forward to seeing the pictures.

My install was delayed but almost done now.

Where did you place the controls? It's the final decision to be made, and I want to get it right.

I suggest you ask SWEETTANGO since it is his boat and he did the work. I just complemented him on it.

When they did mine they removed lots of the bed frame to work, though not sure it was 100%.
