I was drueling over a 1999 3300 SCR this afternoon...... I noticed that the lower piece of the starboard window frame -next to the throttles- was peeling with corrosion under the coating.
Is that finish coating an anodize? It doesn't really look like paint.
Is this a common ailment? Can it be prepped and painted? Or does the frame need changed?
Any ideas about how tough it would be find the part and replace it?
The windshield frame should be brushed aluminum. If it's corroding it should look like it has a case of the chicken pox. This is common in salt water boats. Once present there is little that can be done about it. It's cosmetic.
Thanks, Shrew.
This ls different than that. There is definatley a silver coating of some type. Maybe powder coat?? But the corrosion is more than the poc marks. It is the entire width of the vertical flange and has lifted this coating. Like rust under paint on steel.
The boat is 16 years old and past 7 years has been a freshwater boat. No idea of its life prior to that.
I made an offer on it and we are still negotiating. If we meet on a price, I am going to chat with the surveyor about this corrosion
I will get pictures next time I look at it.
To add to my thread.... I had this boat surveyed. I asked the surveyor about this corrosion question.... His answer was that the powder coating was flaking off over the cortosion. He said clean the area up with a wire brush and sandpaper... Then prime it and paint it and I should be fine.
The boat had other issues on the survey, so I won't need to worry about it....
Thanks,
Rocky
