Default What's under my carpet

Hey guys. What's under the carpet on a 2000. Maxum 2300sr. It currently has glued down carpet. Nd I was wondering if it was all fiberglass under there. I was thinking of the ease of cleaning if it is fiberglass. To simply hose it down and let it drain out the bilge drain. I do t wanna tear the carpet. Has anyone pulled theirs out and if so any pics? I've done some searches but haven't found anything.
Thanks

Um, probably the whole rest of the boat.

It will be fiberglass under the carpet, Robert. If it were just wood the deck would rot out in no time. What I don't know is if the fiberglass under the carpet has a non-skid finish applied - which you'd need if there's no carpet. Pulling the carpet off is likely to be a miserable job because you'll have to deal with the old adhesive that's left. You'd have to find some product that will remove the adhesive without hurting the fiberglass.

Perhaps you can find an out of the way spot to pull up a little to see what you're dealing with.

The carpet on my 2001 2300 SR was held in place by snaps similar to those used in the cover. Underneath was a very nice fiberglass deck with plenty of diamond cut non skid surface. We took the carpet up and are very comfortable using our boat without it.

Are we talking about the carpet in the cabin, or the snap-in carpet in the cockpit. The snap-in carpet in teh cockpit covers non-skid. The carpet in the cabin covers marine plywood which has a layer of resin over it to waterproof the plywood. They install the carpet by rolling adhesive and laying the carpet on the adhesive.

You can rip the carpet out, but it is a tough process that is time consumming and exhausting. I just did in my cabin 2 weeks ago. I then used acetone and heavy duty scrapers to get up as much of the adhesive as possible. No ALL of the adhesive comes up, but alot does. It is not a finished surface. It does not hose down. It will need to be recovered with something else.
