Default This is NOT how you want to see the Apostle Islands for the first time...

Kidding aside, the Coasties were awesome and not at all confrontational. Kudos to Station Bayfield, WI.

Better luck next time, I guess...

Just remind yourself that it could always be worse - as in seeing the islands while bobbing about in life vests.

What happened - why the tow?

Fair point. We had no real panic or concern for safety. The wind was going to blow us into Madeline Island if all else failed, so we were going to be fine. Thanks for the perspective check!

Failed ICM...about 12 miles out of Bayfield running at 25mph and lost the engine. Would not restart. Contacted both the USCG and USBoat for a commerical tow but the single vendor for towing in the area estimated that it would take them 8 hours to get out to us due to another tow already in progress. At that point the CG came to get us.

It was a terrific 30 minutes of boating and a long tow ride back to Bayfield.

Fried ICM and a broken starter due to my stupidity in trying to get it running on the water.

Cheers,
C

8 hours would have been a rather long wait. Tollerable if provisions, seclusion, and the anchor all hold.

I had my first tow the weekend before last with 6 adults aboard. Fortunately I was at the pulling end of the line instead of the pulled end.
