Unhappy Steering Issues

I have a 2001 SCR 2700. When I bought it the steering was VERY tight. I've disconnected everything. The outdrive moves freely and the steering cable also moves freely so I replaced the actuator. The steering was still very tight so I replaced the pump and still no improvement. After some reading I adjusted the actuator such that the flats on the actuator were vertical. That made a HUGE improvement but I still don't think it's right. The steering is still a bit tight compared to another boat with the same setup. In addition, the boat needs to be steered constantly at low speeds. It will not go in a straight line. I must constantly correct the steering. I've been told that even though the steering cable doesn't seem to be binding when it's disconnected, it could still be giving me problems so I guess my next move should be to replace the cable. I've looked at the Maxum Customer Care web site and it says it has a 17' cable but it doesn't give the manufacturer's name. Does anybody know who makes the steering cable for a 2001 SCR 2700 ?

psint, yes you have revised severl older threads. I would suggest you start new ones for the help you are looking for.

Some slow speed wander is normal with a cruiser, even wosre in cross winds.

Did you check to see it there is too much side to side play on the outdrive? A worn swivel shaft will allow the outdrive to have this play and the result is excessive wander.

BTY: don't over correct a boat reacts slowly to steering changes at slow speeds.

Agreed. 4 year old thread and someone else hi-jacked it 2 years ago. (What are the chances). I moved this to a new thread.
