Default Speedometer for my 2400SE

Hello all, I was having my boat "Scuba Scrubbed" in my slip and the diver cracked my speedometer bracket on the back of my boat. Can I still get this item thru Bayliner or will I have to get a new one from a different manufacturer? Also, do I need to feed the cable all the way back up to the gauge or does this cable detach from the wheel in the back? Thanks for the help

Brent~

Go to your marina and they will help you on this one . Should have a universal fit for this. No you don't need a new cable just the plastic pick-up that your diver broke. Is he paying for this?

What outdrive do you have? Alpha Gen 2 and Bravo have the speedo pickup built in. Is this bracket for a fish finder with a built in speedo?

mmwjr, it is a Alpha I outdrive, now that you bring it up my GPS does have a speedo too, I wonder if this was the one for that, basically it was just a wheel that sat even with the boat right next to the deph finder sensor.

Roger, I will have to check with West Marine to see if they have something that matches.

Thanks guys.

I beleive this is the paddle wheel for the speedo in your GPS. Else it would be a pitot tube as in this link which is what Roger referred to.

Do you have a picture of it?

Why would a GPS need a mechanical sender for speed? A GPS have the ability to automatically calculate the speed based on the time to receive the signal from a specific sallelite, then calculate the difference is time to receive a signal a few seconds later. Then the GPS calculates the difference in time bwteen the two signals and determines how far you've travelled. This is done with the position of the satellite being in geosynchronous orbit. If you have a GPS in your car, then this also has this capability. This is how it estimates time to arrival. You don't drag a wheel behind you in the car.

The paddle is definitely for a speedometer, but I seriously doubt it's for the GPS. I would suspect this was part of a fish finder package or is connected to the primary speedo,.

Shrew yep that's what I meant a combo unit, GPS/Fishfinder. I have a combo unit on my boat and it had a seperate transducer for the depth/fishfinder and a paddle wheel with temp sensor for speed and temp.

The paddle allows the head unit to calculate "speed over water" rather than "speed over land (gps)". Used mostly for adjusting trolling speeds if you have a strong current if you're running with or against.
