Default scr 2400 gen set

I own a maxum scr2400, it's a great little cruiser and we love it. now that we have used the boat on a few outings we have found that a genset would be nice. My question to the group is, should this boat have had a genset as oem equipment and if not can it be added to the boat in it's second life? Lake powell would be a nicer family outing if we had powr. Thanks in advance for all the reply and assistance

I have a 97' with factory A/C so I genny is needed to run it while on the hook.

Not sure but there is room on the starboard side behind the holding tank just need to find a genny that fits.

Thanks Mike , I am not sure if there is enough room for a genset behind my holding tank, unless it was a really small set. Was the engine compartment layed out different for a factory installed genset??
thanks,
Bob R

There was no factory option in the 2400 for a genny.

While its not a great idea, I have seen people strap down air cooled generators in a bilge, and plumb the fuel to the main tank. Have to run the blower though!!

Most people in your situation just strap a honda generator out on the swim platform.

To install a genset, you need room for the unit plus a water muffler, and you need to drill 2 holes in your hull, one for water pickup, and one for exhaust.

I just signed a purchase agreement for an '04 2400 SE that has a Westerbeke genset. It is mounted on the starboard side, between the waste tank and the stern.

I also agree with the other poster that a nice Honda generator would be an easy option. Most of the sport cruiser type boats here in NE Florida use that setup. They are so quiet it's really hard to tell if they are operating.

Honda has a 2000watt Invertor gen that has a 30 plug from factory. $1099. I am thinking about doing this but concerned about if mounting on back will it be able to handle getting wet so much
