Default Replacing anchor on 2009 2700 SE

Hi All,

Just back from a fishing trip where after many attempts I had to accept my anchor was not leaving the reef so I had to cut it free. As the boat has a windlass I thought I better ask if there is any considerations before I go and buy a new chain and anchor.

I believe you may have to align to recommendations of the windlass manufacturer but I don’t have any details around this so looking at getting 1/2’ rope, 28ft chain and anchor to be determined. It would be great to hear suggestions.

The good news is that we at least git a decent fish haul

Cheers

David

Looking at the Lewmar Delta Anchor (22 pounds). Anyone tried this anchor out?

The rode needs to be sized to the windless as you mentioned, what brand and model is your windless?

Selecting an anchor depends on what type of bottom you anchor in, you didn't mention this so its hard to answer but a Delta typically does well on most bottoms.

Hi ?Mike,

We have a range hear of rock, sandy and coral bottoms so need something flexible. I have been tossing up between the Delta and the Manson Supreme Anchor but as concerned about the size. Windless sizing is all good as got a chain sample of 8mm chain and still had the rope. As such spliced the chain and rope together and gies 5grough the windless no issues. The ?Manson anchor is quite a ,rage anchor when you align to their recommendations and a chunk of change more in price. Makes the delta seem like a decent buy.

Length: 27'0"
Beam: 8'6"
Weight: 6,784lbs (dry)

Rocna Vulcan: 9Kg/20lb
Rocna (Original): 10Kg/22lb

Manson Supreme:
18-30ft: 15lb
25-35ft: 25lb

I had a Rocna 22lb and later a Manson Supreme 25lb on a Maxum 2800. Both worked equally well as far as I could tell. I would be looking at either a Rocna, Manson Supreme, or a Spade anchor in the 20-25 lb range. 28 feet of chain is good. I'd go with 30 just to make the math easier when calculating scope.

I have a 22lb Lewmar Galvanized Delta Plow anchor. It sets and holds very well on the muddy lake bottom where I boat. It might get stuck in a corral reef.

Thanks all! Ended up getting 100M of 1/2” rope 10 metres of short link 8mm chain and a 22lb Lewmar Delta Anchor. Thanks to YouTube I now know how to splice rope onto chainand have proven the work a number of times since. All to a good result.
Biggest lesson is if I get to the point of no return again, I’ll tie a fender to the rope so I can recover the anchor setup again on return.

Safe boating all!
