Default Replacement steering wheel- which steering hub?

Hi everyone, new owner and member but I'm enjoying reading all the posts and great advice on here!

I have recently purchased a 1999 2300SC and looking to replace a very worn steering wheel with a new one and fancy the OEM Gussi wheel in a taupe colour which seems to be a good match.

I need to choose which hub though, does anyone have experience of this please? The choices are a 3/4 tapered Keyed hub or a splined hub. Or maybe I don't need a hub?

Thanks so much!

Darren welcome aboard.

Guess I would first remove the existing wheel and see if the shaft has splines or a key and determine from there how to install the new one.

BTY are you sure it's the wheel that is sloppy and not the steering system. If a rack steering these have been know for the bolts to loosen and create play between the pinion and rack gears. Another source of slop is with the steering arm to swivel shaft in the transom assy.

Thanks for the advice Mike, it's only cosmetically worn so I'm spending a little on tidying up the cockpit and cuddy, shame we are now hitting the cold winter here in Kent in England but I can't wait for spring to come...I guess this is a frustrating time of year to be a boat owner!

The nut came off easily. I just need to find a place for a steering wheel puller. Before I take it off, and possibly damage it, I would like to have the replacement ready. Does it look like a keyed wheel? I cannot tell with only the lock nut removed.
