there is no way to get it out without destroying it. then there us no way to put the new one in. i just added a new head unit where the vent is next to it.

Welcome aboard JoeMcl1 (and mikembs if a greetinf hasn't yet been extended to you as well)!!

Is this the JVC head unit? Where is the head unit mounted? There should be means to release the faceplate and expose the mounting flange beneath it. There should be screws holding the mounting flange into the bulkhead.

No offense to mikembs, but there is no need to break anything with brute force to replace the head unit. These are expected to be replaceable.

In my case which was a JVC the procedure was:

1. Remove faceplate but pushing button.
2. Remove radio by using removal tools inserted into slots on each side.
3. Remove Microwave to get access to remove mounting housing.

reverse to install

Ah, that is the part I wasn't sure about. Whether the mounting bracket was affixed from the front or the back. Mine was replaced. When the PO installed the head unit the mounting sleeve was inserted into the hole and left there to be held in by hope and fear. My unit slid out in a single pull. I knew there was a removal tool to release the radio from the mounting unit, but was foggy on the rest.

Thanks MMJR

Default Removing the old head unit

Joe, I just removed my old head unit today. Take off the faceplate, place screwdrivers on both sides of the unit to release the locking mechanism and pull out the old head unit. I replaced it with a Sony unit and did not damage the panel whatsoever.
