Just put mine in. They do touch the vinyl, but they don't leave a mark.

Look into changing the prop to a four blade. Might be better for getting on plane faster and with a heavier load(more passengers). Haven't changed mine out yet, but have looked into it and it seems like it will be my next project.

This is always a trade off. Better time on plane but less top end. Key is to dial in the specified WOT with the normal load on the boat.

DSC is a great feature, don't forget to register with the CG.

Yeah TMF is my friend. I installed it for him. I have the older 545s and similar SH VHF. He registered for his MMSI on BoatUS and I programmed it in for him. I've had the Garmin since '08 and love it too. We also have the Garmin G2 Vision cards for our area which really make a huge difference in the unit.

Nice job, Todd.
I set mine up a little differently on my 2400 SC3. My 545 is where you placed the VHF because I was worried about foot traffic to and from the bow (my trim tab switches are where you placed the GPS). My radio mounted below the factory switch bank on the right - a bit lower than the capacity sticker in your pic (my cap sticker is in a different location all together). My boat doesn't have whatever that controller is next to the sticker, nor does it have that contoller just below where you mounted the mic. My mic is just about in the same spot as in your pic.
I did wire the GPS into the radio for the coordinates and it worked for the first season even though I didn't register the MMSI. For some reason though the radio is no longer getting the GPS location from the Garmin. I need to firure out why - all the connections look fine.

Dan without the MMSI the VHF will broadcast the coordinates but no MMSI number for the CG database to lookup and they won't know who you are or type of boat to look for. It's easy to do so do it and be safe.

The controller you mentioned is for the heater. The key to wiring this successfully is the ground wire. I wish I wrote it down to help you, but the ground is key.

Correct, register Here @ BoatUS for free, then program it in your VHF. Careful as you normally can only do it once. Check your radio's instructions.

My radio allows for 3 writes and then it would require the factor to reset.

Thanks guys, am aware of the registering bit - which I never did. My issue is that the radio is no longer recognising/displaying the GPS coordinates from the Garmin. It worked when first installed but stopped at some point. I just need to spend some time trying to figure it out.
