So nice he said it twice. TMF and I have been lifelong friends and I'm excited to now be able to go boating with him and his family.

A few pointers:

There is (are) a zerk grease fitting(s) on the engine couple behind the engine. You want to use the correct grease and a swivel grease nozzle with a flexible hose. It's a PITA to get at, but get some grease in there every season. Big $ should that couple go.

The drive should be pulled off every couple of seasons and the engine lined up. Again, big $ if there are drive train issues. I guess the transom and stringers shift a bit as the boat gets older.

Make sure the Mercathode is in good working order. (corrosion resistance)

Figure out how to get to the fuse panel that's on the left of the access door above the porta-potti.

You may have to remount the cabin door stop that's screwed in above the porta-potti. Our's came off and I had to thru bolt it.

Don't put the cockpit cover in the dryer like I did!

Utilizing Maxum's finest engineering talent, it was decided to that the windshield should be held in place with not one, but TWO #8 SS sheet metal screws. Mine did not fair well on the wicked nasty Chain of Lakes environment.

A couple of years ago I tried using SS pop rivets, but those were too lose.

Yesterday I tried to install 2 8-32 "jack nuts", but they broke off when I tried to get the screw started.
The rivet nuts shown are 10-32. I drilled out the bracket holes to 3/16" (maybe 1/64" bigger). When I get the SS machine screws, I'll grind the flat heads to a slightly smaller diameter.

Ok great close up but I am not sure what is attaching what to what. Looks like the window frame in the picture but not sure what the screws will be attaching to.

BTY: what does this have to do with this thread other than same boat? Different issue from asking if folks like this model and would recommend it.
Guess I would have started a new thread.

The pic was taken yesterday after the hardware stores were closed, so no "after" pics yet.

I'm concerned that TMF and/or Dan may encounter the same annoying issue, so I posted it here. If a moderator feels it should be moved elsewhere, they are free to do so. This series of boats are known as 2400 SC3 (cuddy) and 2400 SR3 (open bow).

Ohhhh, now I think I understand. "Port side brace". So you're addressing an issue with the long console to windshield brace, just left of the cabin entry door. The brace, which does double duty as a hand hold, is mounted pretty well to the console itself, but attaches to the windshield frame with only the two SS sheet metal screws.

Mine was also a little lose when we bought the boat. Come to think of it, I recall one screw was missing. I simply went with new screws on size up. Although they don't sit as flush into the brace bracket.

I think it's good info and because of the title of this thread, it could be the thread for all things related to the Maxum 2400 SC 2006

Well if you want to view it that way the site only needs titles for each make of maxum and they will end up with redundant themes such as engine, outdrive, ... issues.

It seems the origional theme was who has this model and do you like it or not. The post of "Yesterday's project" was not really addressing this question but instead telling you of an issue found and how it was resolved. While I think the solution was nicely done I am not sure all those who may incounter the same issue would look at this thread for a solution. But hey that's just me maybe Shrew can chime in with his thoughts on this.

Annoyance #15, the dreaded loose windshield mount. Drilled out the clip to 13/64. Drilled the frame holes out to 1/4". Installed 2 10-32 aluminum rivet nuts. Ground down the heads of two 3/4" long flat head 10-32 stainless steel screws. Installed the clip first (loose) so as not to strip out the rivet nuts. Re-secured the bar to the console. Tightened the 10-32 screws.

Note that the First-mate now has an additional 2 cup holders.

Some oval head screws may have worked.

Nice fix, Always, and the cup holders look good there. How did you get to the underside to secure the cup holder, remove the headliner below?

I forget which seating option you have on your 2400. Mine has the single rear bench, not the "L" lounge, and there are NO cup holders port side rear.

On the whoop style, I cut the threaded rod portion to length and have exposed nuts in the cuddy.

I have the L-lounge. I put 2 hanging cup holders on each side. Here are mounts. The insulated cup holders are still in the basement.

Interesting, do the hanging type you installed clear the side pads when installed?

If yes, do you recall make/model?

Our plastic ones barely clear the pads and may leave a rub mark. You can always put a 1/4" spacer between the mount and the fiberglass.

We got them at Boater's World a few years back. Their site is under the weather right now. These are similar:

Here's where I got the one for the console:

Bar-Buoy. Looks like there aren't available anymore except on E-bay. We got the ones with the green cozies.
