Default Looking into Upgrades for 01 2400SCR

Hey there,

I purchased an 01 2400SCR with the 5.0 mercruiser engine. Alpha one outdrive. Now that I have been using her for a bit, starting to ponder some things I would like to maybe do in the future. Looking for some input form folks if they are feasible or if the fall into the "dude, are you friggen crazy, don't do that" category. I am a relatively handy guy and can do my own work, so labor would be covered there. (I think). I know my boat model had these options available at purchase, so I'm thinking it wouldn't be too terrible to do. But I am coming from a smaller Maxum 1800 bowrider, so this stuff is all really new to me so I could very well be digging myself into a huge hole.

1. Adding in AC
2. Adding in a generator
3. Adding a windlass system for anchor

Any input on any of the above would be great!!!

Thanks so much!
Dave

I don’t think the 2400 was ever offered with a generator. This makes AC worthless as you can only run on shore power. My 1997 has AC but no generator.

Adding a windless is a great update.

The guy a few slips down from me has stock AC on his. He has a 2000 2400 and has AC. I never actually asked, but I assumed he had a generator because yes, kinda pointless once off shore power. I'll have to ask him. Anything in particular I need to know about windless? I would assume it just gets installed into that hatch area just above the seats in the cabin where the anchor chain and rope go now. Do you by chance have any model recommendations? They are expensive little buggers and I know zip about them lol.

There are two types, vertical and horizontal. The vertical’s motor extends into the anchor locker and the rode wraps 180 degrees around it and the horizontal’s motor is above deck and the rode wraps 90 depress around it. Lewmar V700 is sized for your boat but there are several other manufacturers out there.

Sweet!! Thanks for the info. That Lewmar seems to be the most popular for my boat. I'll start planning up for it. I think it will make a big difference.
