Default Leaking Fuel Injectors 5.7 Litre Mercruiser

i have been told by my marine mechanic that my injectors are leaking and need replacing. they quoted $4200 for the 8 injectors plus 16 hours of labor.

the injectors I've been quoted are OEM original, but on amazon i can buy them for $200 for all 8.

has anyone tried after market injectors? has anyone replaced their injectors?

16 hours seems like a long time to replace 8 injectors?

can anyone comment on this?

Does the 16 hours include the time they spent diagnosing the problem? I’ve never had to replace an injector so cannot help you although I have removed them on a car to pull the heads. Should be a one day operation. The OEM have mark up as they are most likely GM remarked with a Mercruiser part number and box.

16 hours seems like a LOT. Not sure about these on a Marine engine, but replacing an injector on any auto engine I have worked on was about 20 minutes per injector. It's a plug and either a clip or small bolt. Have you been going to this mechanic for a while? I could replace an entire engine in less than 16 hours. Are they buried in there or something that requires an engine R&R? I would also question why they are telling you that you need all 8? Is it a going to do one, so might as well do all scenario, or are they saying all 8 are leaking, which I find hard to believe. If that is the case, they have no idea which one is leaking and are throwing parts at it. If this is someone that regularly services your boat, I'd be cautious....if they are new to you, find a new shop.

I think you mean INCLUDING 16 hours of labor. There is no way 8 injectors are $4200. 16 hrs of labor @ $125/hr =$1625. Where is $4200 coming from?

What is his labor charges per hour?

How much are the parts going to cost?
