Default Installing downriggers

Hello all,

Just purchased a 1995 2400sc

I want to mount two down riggers, any ideas as to where and wiring?

Thanks,

Harris

Welcome aboard

Interesting topic not many here discuss rigging for fishing.

Does the manufacture of the down riggers suggest how to install?

I would think on port and starboard sides a few feet from the transom.

Apologies. Not many options because that is not really a fishing boat. Like buying a Grady White 23 and trying to cruise with it. Fishing boats generally make poor cruising boats and cruising boats tend to make poor fishing boats. Boating is an exercise in compromise.

Either is possible, but each is laid out poorly for the other activity. Wiring should be straight forward.

Not sure on that boat but you should be able to pull wires I in the gunwale. Make sure you secure it well. Electric riggers with a 12 lb ball puts good pressure on the mounting point Stainless bolts with a backer underneath if u can.
I'm sure you already checked but if not make sure u can go slow Enuff to troll. If not get some beefy bags. Google them. Quality bags that work well. Trolling bags will slow u down quiet a bit. Need the right size though.
We trailer our center counole to Lake Ontario for salmon each year. Those charters use 30' and bigger boats for trolling and get the speed down with bags. I use them at times on the 21' if current is strong.
Considered trying to set up our 2800 scr but it's just not set up for it as mentioned here. Stricky pleasure boating and anchor or perch on Lake Erie
Think if through before you start putting holes in the boat.

No help on the downrigger mount, been thinking about them as well on our 2800.

These are great fishing boats! I take off in the morning with the coffee turned on and troll at 3.3-3.5 mph. That is the boats wakeless setting. It is a perfect speed for the stripers we troll for. We've caught thousands of fish from our boat, I can't see using anything else at this point.

For our walleye we have to troll around 1.8-2.0 mph. I guess it depends on what youre fishing for.
NY Salmon generally around 2.5
