Has the fuel filter been changed recently? If not start there.

Are you hearing any strange noises from the fuel pump?

+1 on fuel filter and possibly fuel pump!
I'd also ck vent line to fuel tank, might be pluged up enough to starve for fuel at higher RPM's and load, but run at lower RPM's and lower load!

What fuel pump are you listening for? Carb engines have mechanical pumps mounted on the raw water pump.
By cleaning the carb, did you get a rebuild kit and completely tear it down?

Could be fuel pickup hose in tank. Mine did same thing so I pulled and cleaned pickup lines.

I am very interested in this myself, as I have the same problem. When running at 3000 rpm's and trying to give more throttle the engine just dies, acts like starving for fuel. If you notice trash in the carb, check your pickup tubes.

I've posted this in response to several of these issues.
My problem was the check valve at the tank outlet.
It has a small ball in there that gathers rust and restricts fuel flow at high rpm.
I took a punch and removed the steel ball and that fixed mine.

Especially if it's never been done, buy a carb kit and rebuild it. If you're not comfortable doing that, watch some YouTube videos or pay someone to do it.

Make sure you replace the small fuel filters that are at the end of the fuel line going into carburetor. Plus make sure you put them in the same way they come out.
