Well.... I think you were correct that I have a leak on the oil lube line. That 1/4 hose. Gonna take a look today.

Do you think water could have been getting somehow thru that leak into the outdrive ?

I've got the outdrive off currently. It seems fine. Gonna pressure test it.

Any tips on accessing the drive oil tube? It goes to the rear of the engine. Seems impossible to reach.

Maybe after I can trim up I'll be able to reach from outside ?

I recommend you look at the Mercruiser manual to get a good understanding as there is a fitting that is in the transom assembly that hoses connect to on both sides.

Once I get the outdrive reinstalled and can trim up I believe can get there externally.

Outdrive holds pressure. Cannot find any issues with it.

Hopefully I don't have an issue with the engine . That wouldn't be good. It was replaced 3 years ago

The engine has nothing to do with the gear lube. The transom fitting may be the problem as they are know to break being plastic.

Lalala.

Fir the Alpha drive the shifter needs to be in forward and the drive also needs to be in forward when installing. Typically holding the prop shaft with minor twisting pressure is required to hold the dog clutch in forward gear while installing.

Loosened the 6 bolts and pulled it back. Then was able to get the lower drive into gear. So that's all fine. Missing a washer now and a bushing. Also have a piece that I have no idea where it came from. That's never good

My bad. I had forgotten it was the clip on my drill

So far everything appears to be working. Time for a sea test once it's all buttoned back up

Wish me luck

Sorry to hear that but not really surprised. Are you planning to have it fixed? The head should be checked for flatness and cracks.

Yes. Gonna get fixed. Sad thing is motor has less than 20 hours on it. Either impeller failed or thermostat.

Not too happy

Or a faulty build on the engine, not unheard of. What engine is this ?

These are GM engines maranized by Mercruiser.

5.0 = 305
5.7 = 350

Both came in varies horsepower rating over the years.

Is it just one head gasket that’s blown or both?
