Couple of questions on installing Windless on 2400scr
Hey there,
Been doing a ton of research (and pulling up my anchor) and decided I am definitely going to put one of these on my boat. Trying to pull up the anchor and not being at the helm scares the crap out of me as I am worried I am going to drift into someone while I am trying to get the anchor line in that stupid little hole. Tried having my 13 year old son do it yesterday...that didn't work well lol. So...going with a Lewmar 700. Pics I have been seeing when I search for these on my boat seem to favor the Vertical model. But it warns of anchor locker space since motor is below. I kinda like that model as I think it looks better...and it's also $100 cheaper lol. Anyone have reason NOT to get the vertical? Assuming it will work since I have seen it installed on the 2400scr. Second question...it appears I need to get a special rode for this (which seem hard to find at the moment). Do I need to get the Lewmar brand setup? Model appears to accept 1/4" chain with a 1/2" rope. My local marine shop can splice in line to chain or there are a bunch of non-Lewmar brands out there. Will it work if I do that or does it need to be their SPECIFC rode? I am looking to get 10' of chain and 150' of line. If I can find it. Thanks!!!
The drop needed is important if you want to be certain not to get a jam in the line when retrieving. That’s to the top of the pile of chain/rode. Not just empty.
The windlass Gypsy will be specific to a certain diameter of rode and will call out what size/style of chain. They can be swapped out to possibly match what you have, but I would just buy new rode/chain to match the specs.
