Default Bilge paint peeling

hello fellow Maxum boat owners,

I have recently purchased a 2001 2900SCR, when I bought the boat I noticed that the bilge paint is peeling and exposing the bare fiberglass, this is also happening in the forward bilge and under the dinette seating, does anyone know why this has happened?

Thanks,
Matt

Yes a picture will be helpful.

Are you certain it's paint? The factory did not finish with paint but a thin resin/glass over the wood shelves on either side of the engine.

The bottom should be glass and resin as well but no wood.

Yes, Mike that is what I was assuming as well. The inside of the bilges and the lockers is covered with an unfared 2 part product, much like a vinylester. Well, maybe not because I believe vinylester won't crack.

I believe you're getting some minor delamnitaion of the this coating. You'll need to remove the delaminated portion and then recoat it. Vinylester is a good option to recoat the places. It won't look great, but I wouldn't bother grinding down the edges of the otld material to feather in the new vinylester unless you're really picky about a bilge or locker looks.
