The highest RPM for my 96 2400 SCR is currently 4800. That is pretty low for the 5.7 liter engine.

Actually that rpm is exactly correct for the 5.7 in a marine application.

Actually I think you are right in the max RPM for that engine. I have a 95 2400 with a 5.7 A1G2 4 barrel carb and it has a wide open RPM of 4800.
It came new with a 14.5x 17 prop.
I am running a 14.5x17 now and my max RPM is 4500, I have only had it there a couple of times as my wife and I like to keep the speed down and enjoy the ride.

I know this thread is a bit old...but djones....what size 4 blade prop did you get? I have the 5.0 Alpha 1 as well and having same issue getting up on plane. Wanted to go 4 blade, but wasn't sure what actual size to get.

Thanks!!!

Hello Dave, Well I tryed numerous props but the best one was a 15x15 Stainless Steel . I accidentally went to a 14x17 that my friend is wrong you may go down on the pitch but not the Diameter. Do not go under 15 Diameter. I really got lucky I contacted the Original owner he took very good care of the Boat before selling it to me. Mine was a 300 hp ( 350 mag mpi fuel injected ) Alpha Gen 2 . I was using a 15 3/4 x 17 SS . But I wanted it to plane out at lower speed why I looked into a 4 prop.. Well I’m disabled so about 2 months ago I had him pull it out of the water when he was traveling to the Boat Yard it fell off the trailer! Totally totaling the Boat ( cracked the lower unit brand new motor we put in and the Transom). But I just bought a New 2980 Regal we love it it’s fully loaded! I wish you the Best of luck … Charles

I have a SR2300 with the same motor and drive. It had a 14" X 20 4 blade on it when I got it and it ran pretty well. Just replaced it this last weekend as I hit something and took a chunk out of one blade. I replaced it with a 14 X 19 4 blade Nemesis prop. I only had 2 of us on the boat this weekend but it jumped right up on plane and ran close to 45 mph at 4600 rpm.
