Hello all, looking for some feedback here please....

when I'm starting out and just left the marina my engine makes a couple popping sounds when i bring the reves up as I attempt to gain speed so i can get to plane. it goes away and only last a few seconds but its not normal, any idea what this could be?

Popping sounds generally not normal, does it sound like a backfire from carb or an exhaust noise? Could be as simple as ignition timing or spark plugs.

it sounds more like exhaust noise versus backfire.... someone suggested i start with my spark plug wires... I'm going to try and get a scan tool hooked up to it to try to diagnose.

thx

When was the last time it was tuned up? Bad distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs may be the culprit. Water in the fuel as well. Is this a carburetor or MPI engine?

Remote the fuel filter/water separator and pour its contents into a glass jar to look for sign of water or debris. Mercruiser distributor caps are know to allow moisture in causing a mis fire.
