hello all, great forum.

does anyone know how to dump my sewage overboard? i have a switch at my helm area but don't understand how to use it, perhaps i need to open a valve?

i currently pump out my holding tank but the odd time I'm far enough of shore and would like the option to dump.

please help.

thx

Welcome aboard!

Wow far enough from shore in a 24’ to pump overboard legally. If you boat is equipped with the pump there should be a valve near the holding tank to divert to overboard, then you have to press both rocker switches at the same time to activate the pump.

I would think that either dumping or pumping raw sewage overboard would be frowned on in most geographies. I know it's against the law in the Region that I live. That is what marina pump-out facilities are for.

There are plenty of places to discharge legally. Just about anywhere 3 miles offshore unless specifically prohibited.

Well, I live and boat exclusively in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay. The laws and regulations are very specific on this, as follows:

"Most boaters know that it’s illegal to discharge raw sewage from a boat within U.S. territorial waters, including the entire Chesapeake Bay, coastal bays and their tributaries. In Maryland, a law allows Natural Resources Police to enforce sewage laws with fines up to $2,000."

Your situation is apparently much different then mine.
