Ok you gurus. Here is my latest problem in the bilge. The gear lube reservoir is "backing up" and building up pressure. This is causing a mess in the bilge as you can imagine. help....

It's normal for the lube to expand when running the boat. The cap of the reservior is suppose to vent to let air out as this happens. I have heard of these failing and result is a build up of pressure until it blows its top and lube ends up in the bilge as you described.

Replace the cap.

Thanks Mike, I was scared into thinking that maybe my outdrive was leaking and letting water in causing water pressure to push the lube back.
Thanks for your help

How full are you filling the reservoir? The full line is a long way from the top. It would take a lot of added volume to overflow the resevoir.

It has done this multiple times? Did you refil the reservoir between overflows?

I haven't re-filled the reservoir at all. It just seems to be under pressure because as you unscrew the cap it shoots into your hand.

Sounds like the vent in the cap may be clogged?
