1998 Maxum 3000 SCR taking on water thru transome

Hi Everyone
I own a 1998 3000SCR and i have water coming in from back transome on both outdrives. I took outdrives off and checked bellows all were fine. The water is coming in low on inside transome plate and following the hydro lines that go to distribution box on gimbal housing. We tried looking to see where water was coming from and it is so tight back behind engine could not get a good look. we even tried using a teleoscoping mirror. Im wondering if anybody on here had this same issue and what was done about it. i had her in the water for 3 hours about 3 weeks ago and on land she sits now up at mechanics shop where it has sat for 5 days now and they havent had a chance to look at her yet. Im just hoping for any advice because i know the next step is gonna be to pull engines. One other thing i already made sure exhaust manifold is alright because i took off riser elbow and filled the y exhaust with water and nothing came in engine bilge

So it takes on water just sitting in the water engines off, correct?

Try using your phone in video mode on a GoPro to see if you can see where it’s leaking. The gaskets for the trim hose manifold may be leaking. The plate bolts to the outside bottom of the transom assembly. Go to Documents of this site and under Mercruiser manuals you will find one for your drives that has this detail. Could also be corroded assembly or transom core rot.

What type of outdrive is this? This is a common issue in the transom assmbly on BIII outdrives in saltwater. At the very least, it sounds like the transom assemblies need to be pulled, inspected and resealed during the reinstall.

On a 3000; are sure there not Bravo 2’s which until the Bravo 3 came out was meant for heavy cruisers while the Bravo 1 is a performance drive.

Could be the swivel shafts are leaking. Look inside the small housing behind the steering arm. This will only leak with the boat in the water. It does not have to running.

Doug I would think that as well but in post 1 he said the water is entering at the bottom area of the assembly.

I have b3 and what i found with mine was like everyone says they leak at the steer arm pin seal because there not a S/S pin water dripped down to bottom of drive bracket and ate it up so the seal at bottom was leaking also both drives same problem that's my short story

Hello, I am having the exact same issue on my 1999 SCR 2800 (twin 4.3s, bravo 2). At the end of last season there was no leak. After putting it in the water for the first time I notice that both my outdrives were leaking (as shown in this other post: https://www.maxumownersclub.com/foru...ing-11235.html). Seems very odd that it was fine last year and this year they are both leaking.

I inspected the bellows and none appear damaged. I started to remove the trim manifold on the starboard side. It seemed to be wet so I will start by replacing the gaskets. The boat has an anode at the bottom of the manifold with two wires going up inside the boat - does anybody know where I can get replacements for those? I've searched all over and none of the results show a setup like that.
