Default 1998 2800 SCR Advice

A few friends and I just recently purchased a 1998 Maxum SCR 2800 and are first time boat owners. We have experience with being on other peoples boats and helping as needed, but basically zero experience with full time operations

I wanted to see if anyone could point us in the direction of a manual so we could read up on the boat functions and operations as well as safety requirements.

I am also very interested in any advice you all could provide for first time boaters on this specific vessel. Any “do’s & dont’s” are welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Welcome Aboard!

Under Documents of this site you will find the owners manual as well as the Mercruiser manuals for your engine and drive. i recommend you and your friends taking a safe boating class.

Welcome and congratulations! I have the same boat and as the previous person mentioned take a safety and training course by a qualified captain. You biggest challenges for a new boater, with that size boat and single engine is docking. Plus winder and current will always be a big factor with this type of boat.

I’m happy to help in any way I can. Congrats again.
