Default 1997 Maxum 30 SCR

Can anyone help me with this , I am looking to purchase a 1997 30 SCR and this boat is beautiful well maintained . but my concerns it is a single 7.4 and all the research the years they were built they all came with twin motors. out of the 160 I researched not one had a single .

I am good with it but concerned that that it would be way under powered. don't get me wrong wife and I just like to slow cruise on the lake all the time . I am assuming because it is factory it would have enough power to get up and plane.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the single 7.4 and the habits of the boat . Thanks

As an owner of a 01 3000 scr with twin 5.0 L engines with bravo 2 out drives I can't imagine only having one engine. To each his own I guess.... demand a trial run and see what she does.....

Good luck
Roger

That is interesting. In 1997 they made a 2700, 2800 and a 3000. The 2700 came in a single with a big block option. The 2800 came in a 7.4 or twin 4.3 options. The 3000 came in a 4.3 and 5.0 option. I've never heard of or seen a 3000 with a single 7.4.

I've also never heard of it referred to as a 30 SCR. The 2800 is 30 feet LOA. Are you sure you're not looking at a 1997 2800 SCR?

Do you have a link to the vessels for sale posting??

Well, I stand corrected. I found one online (I should have looked first).

https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/199...0-scr-3718022/

It even shows a pic of the engine bay. WOW there is a lot of room in a 3000 with single big block.

I had a 2800 with a single big block 7.4 that I upgraded to a fuel injected 8.1. I had always thought the power in that combo was fine but probably at the high end and probably the biggest boat you could get away with with such a setup.

The 3000 is bigger and heavier than the 2800. I guess it would depend on what you're doing. I've never ridden in one, so I can't comment beyond that.

Yes that is the boat I am looking at. Extremely clean ! but my biggest concern is the single. I guess they would not have made it if it did not work. But caution because of I could only find one back in the day that was the same. Really like the looks of the boat and how it was taken care of. Thank you all so much for the feed back and I will wait to see and do a bit more research. Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have a close friend that had the same boat with the single big block and B3 drive. He loved the layout but it was a dog to get on plane and very difficult to maneuver around the dock. Any more than 2 adults and he couldn’t get on plane. If you are seriously considering it, don’t skip a sea trial and make sure you bring friends.

There are PLENTY of Maxum 3000's around if you like the layout that much. The 3200 has the same layout down below, but the cockpit is setup differently.
