Question New 2000 Maxum 1800 XR owner

Hi all,

I recently purchased my first boat: a 2000 Maxum 1800 XR powered by a 2000 Mercury 125 2-stroke. Novice boater but caught the fever after many years of boating with friends in Falmouth, Cape Cod, MA and Lake Winny, NH.

Now that I finally own my own boat I am looking to immerse myself with knowledge pertaining specifically to my boat and engine.

It is in great shape but the instrument panel, although functional, looks a bit outdated. Is this something that can be purchased and installed for this particular model. I saw one post where someone used vinyl backing to upgrade the appearance. The after pics look beautiful. I think this is one area I would like to upgrade if I can.

Also one of the seats has a tear in it. How is that generally handled?

Looking forward to learning as much as I can. Thanks for you help !

Welcome aboard

Buy the Mercury manual for the motor. Most posters here are I/O owners.

How big is the seat tear? I have used super glue to fix a small cut otherwise some stitching may be in order.

Is the helm panel flat on complex curves?

I would like to buy the manual for the motor. Can you recommend the site ? Can I use the serial # to make sure I get the right manual?

Attached is a picture of the seat tear.

The helm panel is flat. I have attached a picture as well.

Thanks in advance for your help

Check out this place for the dash, they do custom work

APlus Mobile Graphics

That seat will need to be stitched, try a local upholstery shop.

Try Amazon for the manual, search by Mercury and year of the engine.

Once a year I use finess it II, followed by a polishing compound, then wax

Should I be using something to wash the hull to remove the discoloration caused by the water line first ?

A good boat wash. The finess it II will remove the rest. Some folks use soft scrub.

Use Soft Scrub to get rid of the water line stain, then use Finesse It II after ?

Thank you for sharing. Outside of alot of my friends owning salt water boats of varying sizes, I am a complete boat and engine novice so I feel compelled to learn as much as I can so I can hopefully do some maintaining myself, save some money and try to avoid any issues while out on the water. I appreciate you forwarding this to me.
