Fuel tank pickup tube screen

I'm trying to remove the pickup tube from my gas tank, but it will not come out. I'm want to check and clean the screen. I have a 93 Maxum 1800 xr. Am I missing something here?

I'm having the same problem on my 1990 1850me. Did you get it out? If so, how? Also, is the pick up tube in your photo threaded into the tank or did it just pull out? Too bad nobody was able to help you here.
