Default Best whale tail?

I'm new to my 1996 1900SR and have found that it porpoises. I can trim and get rid of most but not all. Previous boat I added a whale tail and that took care of things. What have people been using on this Merc outdrive?

Trim tabs or even smart tabs. I don't recommend foils at all. Lift should be coming from the hull not the drive. A foil is lifting the stern of the boat at the outdrive/drive. outdrives and drives were designed for forward propulsion, not upward lift.

About ten years ago I tried the smart tabs and know two others that have tried them. IMO there were a waste of money. All (everyone's) actuators failed within four months. The actuators are just mini versions of the gas struts that typically hold up car hoods. They will not correct a list as you have no control over their position.

My current boat as well as the previous boat had standard hydraulic tabs. A friend install electric tabs on his center console and loves them. I would spend a few extra dollars and get thru tabs.

Kev,
Put a set of smart tabs on my 2000 1900SR and love them! Search the forum for smart tabs to get the skinny. I agree with shrew, a whale tail will put extra wear and tear on your outdrive.

helix007 welcome aboard btw

99% of the time, if someone takes the time to actually post a picture of something it’s because they are referencing the topic at hand….
The NO DRILL thing is a joke… read the reviews… bolt it in the holes you make or it will disappear.

MY recommendation is get trim tabs if you must get anything.
