2100SD Bow Thruster Repair
I purchased a 2001 Maxum 2100SD with Bow Thrusters. One of the thrusters is not working. Where do I get information on repairing and purchasing parts? Who manufactured the thrusters?

I can't see a 21' boat having a bow thruster. Let alone 2. A bow thruster is an electric (or hydraulic) propeller mounted in a tube that goes through the hull at the bow under the waterline. One thruster can drive the bow of the boat from side to side. Two in parallel might be needed on a 100+' yacht. I don't think a bow thruster could fit on a 21' boat or is needed. Do you have a picture?

Rl welcome aboard.
Maxum worked with a company to develop these custom thrusters for this model. Try google to find more info as not many here have posted on this subject although a few have you can try the search function on the site.
From what I recall there is one bow thruster and one on each corner of the stern and runs on a 6V battery system.

Yes I have 3 thrusters, one bow and two stern. They run off 3 12V batteries at 36V. I have removed the one that is not working but cannot find any manufacture or model information. I have googled everything I can think of with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think there is a similar thread on this in the past 12 months that identified the manufacture. Try searching threads for either 2100SD or thrusters.

I was not able to find any thread about repairing or parts for my OEM thrusters. I have found that they were made by Mercury. They are discontinued. The system is available as part no: A-AB01PP3ZD but I have not found where to purchase individual thrusters. Any help on repairing or purchasing would be appreciated.

The bayliner part number is 1694371. Check with a bayliner dealer to see if they can still get one.

Thanks this is the assembly I am looking for. Of course the part I need is the motor assembly 40503T-4 which is unavailable. Now I need to find a working motor or someone who can rebuilt the motor I have.

If the motor can be disassembled try a start/ alternator repair shop.

Hi RL,
Did you ever get your motor fixed? I have the exact issue. Currently having a trolling motor shop looking at the motor. What a bear to get off, eh?!

I'm looking at buying a 2100SD but the owner says the bow thruster quit working a while ago and he never had it looked at. If the batteries and circuit breaker are good I have a feeling the motor went out. Were you able to get it rebuilt?

To date I have been unable to get the thruster fixed. I took it to an elect motor repair place and they state the armature needs to be rewound but will not do the work as they cannot guarantee the work since they are unable to replace the bushings. I am still looking for someone to do the work.

I too had the same issue. The right rear thruster motor on my 2002 2100SD didn't run, and I traced it down to being a bad motor. After finding that they aren't available anywhere, I took it off and took it apart. Getting it off of the boat wasn't too bad, I just had to pull the propeller first to let it drop all of the way down to slide out the back.
After getting the motor apart (the end unscrews, but was super tight) I got the armature out and found that it was shorted and needed to be rewound. The bearings and seals looked to be fine though, so I went looking for a shop to rewind the armature so I could reassemble it. A couple of local shops recommended the same place, and Eurton Electric in Santa Fe Springs CA rewound it for $135. I reassembled the motor last night, and will get it on the boat this weekend and try it in the water in a few weeks. I am optimistic, but we'll see how it goes.

I am at the same place. I am waiting for the armature to be rewound. Then put it back together and wait for the boating season. I have my fingers crossed.

I tested mine this weekend and it worked great. I get nice symmetrical boat movement with the thrusters since all three are working well now. For me the gamble rewinding it paid off, I hope yours works as well.

I have been using my rewound motor for a while now and works great. I just wish I could have replaced the seals while I had it apart.
