Default Trim Tabs

Hello all, our new to us 98 2400scr has the original trim tabs and dash controller, and they work, no issues. I am wondering if anyone has upgraded or can you add a device to tell what position the tabs are in. The original ones have no indicator to tell their location.

I don’t know of any indicator available for these old tabs.
Newer controllers like the Bennett Bolt have indicators, But I’m not sure they would be backwards compatible. Personally, I have just made it a habit to retract tabs as part of my process when coming off plane. Note that I don’t Usually need/use the tabs for fore/aft adjustments, they are used to correct side to side attitude.

The original tab are most likely Boat Leveler
/Insta Trim. I don’t know of a position sensor for them.

Thank you both, I have been trying to move the tabs back to "neutral" once on plane.

If the boat is out of the water you can grab a friend to activate the tabs and count the seconds from full up to full down. If in the water you can do the same thing if you have a long brush handle or book hook that you can rest in the tabs to see the movement.

If I loose track, or when I’m off plane, I’ll just retract them for the max number seconds and you’ll know they are fully retracted.

Also - make sure you always retract before backing up as it will affect handling in reverse.

Us the bow spray to determine tab location. The further down your tabs are, the further forward your bow spray will be.

With the boat sitting either on trailer, anchor, or dock. Click the tabs down, while doing so, count the number of 'click's from full up to full down.

Get on plane with the tabs all the way up. Now click the tabs down once and watch the location of the bow spray change. Keep on clicking (and counting clicks) until the tabs are all the way down. Now compare the bow spray all the way down with all the way up.

Try to count the drive in/ou clicks and the tab up/down clicks. Listen for the drive to cavite to tell you you're too far out. Watch the bow spray to determine how far your tabs are in. I prefer to have tabs up to the point right before the boat starts pounding.
