Default Not much of a project....

It's not much of a project but I installed a bimini on the 1800MX yesterday. I ordered a SharkSkin cover and the material seems really nice. It's definitely not the Sunbrella that came on the convertible top, but it'll make shade, that's for sure. What I ended up doing was using the mounts and rear legs from the convertible top so the only holes I had to drill were for the strap loops. The hardest part of the project was getting the rear legs off the convertible top.

In the not so distant future, I'll be putting hard legs on the front with the ball and socket hinges that will mount to the windshield frame. That's how the factory bimini is done and I just didn't think to order all of the parts until it showed up with straps. Oh well, I still get shade for this weekend and it's only 4 small holes to fill.

I also put an external speaker on my VHF since I can't hear it at all when under way. The radio is mounted under the dash so all of the sound goes down. At least the new speaker is on the dash pointed straight at me. It came with double sided tape which is how it's mounted but I don't know if that's going to hold up so I'll eventually have to drill two more holes and either bolt or rivet it in place.

SP, Shrew - where's the "This post is worthless without pictures" emoticon?

Nice simple project Tom, but one that will make a world of difference.

Due mostly to family obligations our boat has still not been in the water this season. Before it gets wet thou I have two small "upgrades" that I've been itchin to do. Install a cup holder next to the sink in the entertainment center (where one SHOULD have been installed from the factory, and is on later model 2400 SC3's) and replace the crappy, plastic housed ignition switch that simply refuses to remain tight in the dash.

I'll take and post pictures.

I'll take pictures tonight if the weather holds up. I put a bimini on my last boat and loved it and thought that's what I was getting with this one until I got it home and realized it was the convertible top. I'd never seen a convertible top on a small boat like this and it must have been the only one on the showroom floor with it. Oh well, I have what I want now.

I thought convertable top and bimini were the same thing? I have seen some attached to the windscreen (windshield to you lot lol) and some that are just like shades,

My understanding is that the convertible top is the one that snaps to the windscreen and a bimini is relatively free standing.
