Default Dash Upgrade/Mod

New owner of a Maxum 2300 SR and loving it!

I know there are many post about the dash and they have been helpful sourcing new parts. However, after hours of compounding adding a new boot strip (I will post a picture soon) the dash is the last "weak link" left. GLS does not have an insert to cover instrument panel and I am thinking it may not exist. Unless someone out there knows of a sister ship that has the same opening/panel design, I am thinking of going the custom route.

What trouble would I get into if I cut out the old dash and build a new one from a sheet of carbon or wood plastic and screw in where the old one use to be? I am pretty handy, but not sure what is behind the "plastic curtain".

I would love to hear your experiences/suggestions before I start cutting! (sorry the picture is upside down).

We did something similar. We couldn't use the old dash board anymore because we wanted to install some new devices (Lowrance and battery controller) and also the screw holes got too loose after all these years.

First we used a wooden plank and put a carbon wrap on it. That didn't really work as it was some kind of multilayered board and that cracked with the constant changes in temperature and humidity. Then we used a sheet of steel, cut the holes, wrapped it in carbon style wrap again, and this works fine now.
