Darren, nice boat. How did the swap come out? Love the drain plug extensions. The manufacturer likes it when you forget a drain. Keeps the economy going.

Ya did those drains work? My experience is when i remove the plug they is crud that won't let the block drain unless i stick a small screw driver in he hole and wiggle it around to break it up.
BTY: what did you do to that pretty car? damn pole

Turned out great and the boat is faster than ever. The ball vales have worked flawlessly for 3 years (with the exception of 1 year when one side was clogged with sand from the river, coat hanger fixed that) The hardest parts for me were aligning the motor to the gimbal and allowing time for break in
I still have this if you need it - http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31yI7sbGwSL.jpg
The car is doing well… it’s just a support pole in the garage
In guide coat now..

Water must have been sitting in the intake runner for years. The boat has not been run for 7 years.

Wow the water jackets on the endsof the heads look like they never seen water while the intake runners as you said are a mess.
I have seen engines with water damage from sitting for years but never seen the intake runners like this. In most cases th piston ring are frozen to the cylinder walls.
Yea this is a result of the owner letting it sit because they don't have the money, time, or just loose interest and the result if an engine that may have be easly fixed to trash.

So how do you think the water got in? There are 2 distinct layers where it looks like the the corrosion sat on top of the water for a long time.

Do not really know the water got there.
How was the engine oil? Water in it? Leaking intake?
Bad exhaust or head gasket only let's water into the cylinders.
Was the engine left uncovered so that rain entered the carb? I have seen water in the intake from this but not with this type of damage.

Its a bit easier to see here. It looks like rust sat on top of the water.

The oil is clear and good, not cloudy. The boat was stored inside and the swim platform was over the engine.

I went back and looked at some of your other pictures, the exhaust ports do not look like this. What do the intake passages look like?
Good thing you are getting a new engine

I guess it might have got in through the carb. I hope so because I want to reuse my exhaust manifolds.

Your manifolds did not look to bad.
Sure looks like water went down the carb. The cylinders must have been filled as well.
When is the new engine due?

Good luck with new engine.
Just saw a post from Spider-Man he has a similar rusted intake runner issue, however he had water in the oil.
Maybe the PO changed the oil as I would think your oil would have water as well.

I haven't removed the oil yet, so I'll know for sure soon.
