Default WW2 landing ships

Had this WW2 Landing Ship arrived Peoria riverfront for the 9/11 weekend- I didn't realize just how big these ships are.

I believe the story behind this one that it was salvaged over in Europe somewhere in the 70's and finally bought back to the states. Amazing....

Here is an interesting read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_Ship,_Tank

"USS LST-325, previously LST-120 and Hellenic Navy RHS Syros (L-144) is one of the last operating survivors of World War II. It is currently home ported at Evansville, Indiana at the USS LST Memorial museum. The ship is kept in navigable shape and participated in a cruise from Evansville, Indiana to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Amphibious Reunion in Pittsburgh from September 1–7, 2010. Upon completion of the reunion, the ship sailed from Pittsburgh to Marietta, Ohio, to take part in the Sternwheel Festival.[SUP][12]"
