Default Sailing

I used to be an avid sailor and have owned many sailboats over the years including an M-16, I-20, SC22 and other small boats. We switched to power because of the speed and convienance... Ok my wife like power boating better.

Yesterday I had the opportuinity to crew on a 40 foot A-Scow in 20+ winds. For those that do not know a scow is a giant surf board with huge sails.

What a great ride! 28 knots and scared to death! If you ever get to Wisconsin near lake Winnebago ask around for a ride, I am sure you will get one.

Sailiing still takes too much time but I am glad I got the ride it was fun!

Just saw your post. I love sailing and have sailed all my life. Only really got into powerboating a few years ago and like that too. I have a Yngling ( 21 foot keel boat) and race every Wednesday against 12 other Ynglings with my brother and kid as crew, lots of fun.

A Yngling is a great little racing boat that handles the big lake with ease. Its a wet ride, but, you can have your kids race with you and be part of crew. My son is 9 and does a great job.

I did race on Sundays too, but that is now my waterskiing day/tubing/wakeboarding day.

The bottom line for me is I love being on the water.

Being on the water is what it is all about. I also used to race twice a week. One time in Fond du lac and then in Oshkosh. I got back into power boats last year after a 20 year leave from power. My wife really enjoyed the lead bottoms but did not like the scows. She likes the freedom of being able to go where we want as fast as we want in the power boat. I am just happy to be on the water.
