I'm surprised that Dear John didn't even address whether the engine was carb. or fuel injected. Completely irresponsible, if you ask me.

Completely agree! The first thing to check is if there is actually any gas in the tank, then start looking at vapor lock, fuel pressure, etc...
But then again, maybe that is the problem. For all we know it could be a Volvo with a turbo deisel, they don't run so well on gas

you guys are so typical...she said it stalled about a mile away...so...it's more than likely electrical!!!or even timing belt!!!
