manatees
You guys that boat in Florida will get a laugh about this one. I am helping a friend get his Nordic tug back to tampa. We started last Saturday at Jacksonville, Florida. We took off from Port Orange this morning and are now tied up at Titusville for the night.
About half way down we got pulled over going through a minimum wake area for these freckin manatees by sheriff barney and crew going 8 mph cause our wake was too big. Since I was the driver at the time I got the $88.00 ticket. There is irony someplace here because of how fast we were not going and the little wake that we we putting out.
Other than this the trip has been fun and hope to stay away from the floating cows
Roger

Yea I here they treat those things as scared cows. I understand wanting to protect them but like most protection laws they restrict a lot and don't end up providing the protection anyhow.
Glad you are enjoying yourself.

Well, there's less than 5,000 of them in population, and they only breed every 3 to 5 years, and not until they reach 5 years old. My brother has a place in Florida, and most people are pretty cautious and careful about how they boat around them. There's a lot of them killed by boats. Having to slow down a little isn't all that bad. Sounds like a nice trip.

I agree but handing out tickets instead of warning for first time offence for someone only slightly breaking the law seems harsh. You I know breaking the law is breaking the law but a ticket for doing 8 mph.

Are you going around the horn, or through Okeechobee?
Had an enormous manatee shoving my boat around to eat under it the other day. Cool animals. Every one I've seen has propeller scars.

We cut through the lake Okeechobee aND the canal. We are just south of Boca Grande on the hook tonight with the genny running. Came from Ft. Meyers Beach.
About 3 more days to get to Clearwater where my friend has a slip for his Nordic tug.

Because he watches the show and refers to it occasionally.

You guys are confusing me. I did not to see Kevin, a thousand pardons and the G man was at the ft. Lauderdale boat show which was early this month. We made a right turn before getting that far south.
Just got to Venice today.
