Default What brand A/C?

Looking into a new a/c unit for next spring. I have a 10,000 BTU Marine Air Unit that is 15 years old. The drip pan is rusting out to where the condensation water in the bilge is brown in color and I have been told if the pan is rusting more than likely the bottom of the condenser is doing the same.

I would like to do this myself and save the labor charges.

Anybody done this recently? What brand would you recommend? I would like a drip pan that is plastic and not painted steel so this doesn't happen again.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks

Roger

Replaced mine on my 3200 about 4 weeks ago! It wasn't too hard to deconstruct the steps. I ended up finding a 6 year old, still new in the box MarineAir unit (VCD16K) so didn't have to mess with changing the plumbing, wiring or ducting. I figure I am good for another 15 years!

Now, what to do about the frig. It decided to die! I got the old unit out (barely fit through the companion-way door! But it did!) but now have to decide what to replace it with.

I seem to have real refrigeration problems! Icemaker last year, AC this year, now the frig. The good thing is - not much left to replace!

Big,mine is getting really loud....when the compressor kicks on I can't even hear the tv!!!! One of my dock mates had his 16btu unit rebuilt with a new compressor. I can't believe how quiet it is!! His cost was over $1000 and we removed and installed it ourselves. For that money I will get a new unit with new controls and pan....[emoji106]

I totally hate the way it operates. Super quite and no vibration but with the temp sensor on the side of the uit it measure the return air temp. Like puting your home thermostat in the duct under the house. Dumb idea.

I am already leaning towards Marine Air Retro fit a/c since that is what I have now. One of our marina M's in our area in a dealer. A little bit of humor while I was looking at the different brands is whatever you buy do not ship it by UPS, they will destroy it. Ship freight via a truck line.

I am going to be busy this spring.:-)
