Default outdrive

Anyone in the Maryland area? I need to have my outdrive looked at. I think I have a bearing going out in the lower unit.

It's more likely a gear wearing down in the lower unit. Do you get a ratcheting type sound (comes from intermeshed gear teeth slipping over each other) or do you hear a rumbling type sound (usually indicates a bearing, likely a gimbal bearing - a frequent culprit)? The bearing would be in the upper unit. Either is a big job. Some people do them themselves, but special tools are usually needed.
