Post Oil change on 1997 2300 SC 5.7

Hi All,
I am looking for some advice on my first oil change for our 1997 2300SC with a 5.7L engine. We bought it last summer and discovered the engine serial # label on the cover of the carb matches a 6 Cyl engine and this is definitely a V8. I looked for the serial plate on the engine block when I winterized the block and drive, but couldn't find it.

I plan to change the oil in April, but I don't know any of the part #s for the filter or the volume of 25W40 I will need.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers,

Allen

From my perspective, you can never change the oil too frequently.

Hope that helps.

Hi Patrick,

I need to know the filter part # and estimated amount of 25W40 I will need. Do you know that?

The SBC Mercruiser engine use the same Mercruiser/Quicksilver filter whether it’s a remote kit or not. The 4.3 remote oil filter is the same as the V8 SBC but if there isn’t a remote kit the 4.3 uses a small filter. Basically Mercruiser only list these two filters and the description tells you which application it’s for. Sorry don’t recall the part number.

Thanks. That should give me enough info to order off of amazon.

As a rule of thumb always change your oil and filters in the fall before lay up.

amiko, I had a 5.7L in my last boat. I used the Quick Silver oil filter 35-866340Q03 and made sure I had at least 5 qts of 25W40 standing by. I also use a suction pump to remove oil from my boats which gives you a pretty good idea of how much you are removing. Mine is kind of clear/ blueish so you can see the oil.

Welcome Aboard
