Default Oil Change - 1996 Maxum 1700r?

Quick question y'all (noob to the fourm). I have a 1996 Maxum 1700R with the 3.0 4-cylinder Mercruiser engine and I need to do an oil change. Google, interestingly enough, can't tell me the exact oil and oil filter to get for this motor.

Can anyone help me?

Mercruiser/Quicksilver 25W40 for the oil. As far as I know there are only 2 different size filters but not sure what the 3.0 takes without doing a little research. Under Documents of this site is the Mercruiser manual for your engine and it should list it in there.

Yea, downloaded that PDF - no dice. It's actually fairly useless aside from the wiring diagram.

What! I said the Mercruiser manual not the Maxum owners manual. The Mercruiser manual is highly detailed.

Mercruiser manual #26 is for the 3.0

I always get my oil filter from Wally's. One part number is 35-866340Q03. If there are two oil filters to choose from get the larger one, the smaller one is for outboards.

The smaller of the two I referred too is for the 4.3 without remote location while the larger is for the remote filter. The V8 uses the larger for either, I just don’t know about the 3.0.

My 2001 3.0 and 2006 5.0 used the same size oil filter. The larger one.

Well, I hope I'm lucky, because I bought the exact one you listed, but it is the Standard version (shorter) for my 3.0.

The only difference is the short one use less oil than the large one uses more in your fillups.
