Default oil

going to chenge the oil in my 1800 mx 3.0 for the first time any recomendations on the best oil to use

well..if your engine is still covered by warranty..make sure you use quicksilver 10-50 and quicksilver filters.......if not I'd stick in castrol syntech....use it on my cars and motorcycle...great stuff...

I have a theory that Mercury specifies 10-50 weight because it is not produced by many other companies.
My oil just burns up, so I'm not that concerned with the brand.
I have heard great things about Amsoil http://www.amsoil.com/index.aspx and I do use their marine gear lube.
They have all the specs online and this stuff really out performs other brands.

I agree I have used Amsoil for some time and really like it.

I use the mercury quiksilver in mine, I was reading about the differences between auto and marine oils a while back. According to what I read, there are different additives between the two due to the conditions that marine engines run in and the article suggested not using regular auto oil. In my last boat I did use regular auto oil with no problems.

Wow, Mobile 1 was the worst overall.. So much for my get what you pay for theory... Looks like Amsoil it is from here on. Gettin ready to start spring prepping myself!
