Default New Owner in need of basic info...

I have picked up a 1996 Maxum SCL and was wondering what size battery would be the best? I purchased a group 24 which has 550 CCA and wondering if that is sufficient? The engine is a 5.7L GMC with under a hundred hours on it.

Welcome aboard

I would get the largest battery in the group 24 however thus means more plates in the battery and staying in the same group size means thinner plates which have a high probability to break from pounding. The 550 is adequate but a 650 or one in the 700 range has more reserve but I don't recommend the 1000 CCA.

First welcome aboard!

Get the biggest one that will fit in your tray.Is this battery just for the engine or is there 12c accessories that need juice? Do you have a frig ? That would be the biggest consumption of power other than your radio. If you have said yes to these questions I would look into a deep cycle group 27 or 29. Another scenario is two batteries. One for the engine, a starting battery and the other, the house battery, for your 12v accessories which would be a deep cycle battery. Lots of options for different needs. So yeah what you have now is the very minimum for starting your engine and that's about it!
