Need Replacement Engine Audio Alarm
My helm mounted audio alarm (high temp/low pressure/low drive oil) is on its last leg. The alarm is barely audible when I turn on the key, and no doubt I would not be able to hear it with the engine running. I have been unable to find the replacement part, or a suitable substitute. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I just got one, I have a 1999 3000SCR. One of the alarms went. I got one for 29$ (including shipping, from NJ to Nova Scotia). Most prices I got were at least twice that. I checked locally and got a quote for $80+. I got mine off E-bay through "Nuwave Marine" out of New Jersey, it just came in yesterday. Hope this helps

Forgot to mention, the part # you're looking for (I think) is 816492a6. That is for mine anyway. The 6 at the end can change depending on the type of engine you have. Just type in "mercruiser engine audio alarm buzzer" and you will get lots of hits

Just ordered from NuWave Marine on EBay. Thanks Gentlemen for the great response. You can't beat $22 delivered to the door. Now I just hope I never hear it.

Do most Maxums have this alarm? I have a 2001 2500scr and I have never heard any kind of alarm when I turn the key. Could it be that this alarm is silent unless there is an event?

As far as I know all of the MAXUMs have this feature. Basically when you turn on your engine the alarm goes on for 5-10 seconds and then goes off. If you are not the original owner, it is possible that someone before you did not like the noise and disconnected it (or them) each engine is fitted with one. It will sound when you have high temp, low oil pressure, or low drive oil. Earlier models (pre-1998 ???) had the same setup just a different alarm. You can easily do a Google search and find out all you want about it. Just put in your engine size and "mercruiser engine alarm audio buzzer" Hope this helps

It should be located under your dash. It's not very big, probably about 3/4" in dia and the same thickness, two wires coming off of it and it's black plastic. Type in the previous part # I wrote and go online to get an idea what it looks like, or to a parts/repair manual if you have one. I have a 3000, mine was located behind the panel where the macerator pump switch is. Anyhow it will be located somewhere around the helm area.

Any 12v DC buzzer will work. My local electronics store had a bunch on display that you can hear what they sound like. I picked a pulsing one. I think it was $5.

Just replaced mine today. Pretty easy change out. The service shop at the marina actually stocked the exact one. They said it isnt rare that they go bad.

If your's doesn't have an alarm when you hold the key at Aux., then it is either dead or disconnected. I suspect the latter, as it's obnoxiously loud on my boat and I get comments on it everywhere I go. Neighbors on my dock threaten to cut the wire for me when I'm gone.

Just to mention, not all Maxums have this... my new 1800 SR3 doesn't. but year 2000, 1800SR did.
There are warning buzzers fitted to the new boat but it doesn't sound when starting the boat...

Well, wouldn't you know, as I take the panel off to get at the alarm to replace it with the new one, and darned if the previous owner didn't have it taped up!
No wonder I couldn't hear it. Always good to have a spare I suppose. Serves me right for not checking it first. So much for the KISS principle.
