I have read several places about the fuel gage jumping back and forth but the one on my friends boat works great until the engine starts - then it jumps from 3/4 to empty back to 3/4 back to 0. When the engine stops, the gage does not register until you just turn the engine over for a second. Then it regesters the correct amount of fuel. I have checked the switch, the gage, and the unit in the gas tank - which, by the way, is under the rear floor - and I have voltage but the voltage also goes from 0 to volts and back and forth as the gage swings 0 to 3/4. I have continuity from gage to unit in the tank and a good ground. I have not removed the unit from the gas tank to check its condition because it appears to be a power source issue rather than the gas tank unit issue. Any ideas?
